Medicine is a complex science - its practise even more so. To try and distill the myriad factors impacting on the doctor-patient relationship and devise a one size fits all model for IFC, as the Commonwealth Department of Health & Aged Care and Treasury (Departments) are trying to do in the Informed Financial Consent Discussion Paper (IFCDP), goes against the very nature of the complex doctor-patient relationship, which must be understanding of all issues, differing with every patient, which may impact on the delivery of quality care and potential outcomes of medical interventions.
