A motion endorsed by 500 doctors on 20/7/03 at the Hilton Sydney Airport, agreed to meet within one month to consider the Government’s response to the resolution of the previous meeting (20/7/03) namely:
That this meeting calls on the Federal Government not to proceed with the imposition of further levies on certain medical indemnity organisations.
As a consequence a second IBNR rally will be held on:

Medical Indemnity Update as at 25 July 2003

- The Federal Health Minister, Senator Kay Patterson says the IBNR levy will proceed.
- Capping of liability for doctors has been ruled out on reports that some States oppose it. Senator Helen Coonan, Assistant Treasurer, says it will be phased in.
- Controversy continues over the High Court decision regarding tubal ligation negligence claim.
- Controversy continues over court decision in the HIV/AIDS case.
A poor attendance to this rally will send a signal to governments and the profession that all is well with the IBNR levy.
