The Australian Doctors Federation requests that our Australian political leaders respond to the ongoing urgent child protection issues raised by the gender affirmative care model.
We request that in every state in Australia gender reassignment treatment—including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery—is banned for those under 18 years of age.
We request a national conversation on how to protect vulnerable adults up to the age of 25.
We ask our medical colleges to cease using the Auspath guidelines as the standard of care, as they do not fulfill the peer-review, evidence base and scientific standards required to be used as guidelines.
Gender clinics in Australia are providing harmful treatment to children and adolescents and should be closed. Practitioners need to be able to provide supportive evidence-based psychological care to children and adolescents with complex mental health issues including gender uncertainty or confusion.
