The Australian Doctors’ Federation requests again that our Australian political leaders respond to the ongoing urgent child protection issues raised by the gender affirmative care model.
We request that in every state in Australia “gender treatments”—including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery—are banned for those under 18 years of age immediately.
We support the Open letter endorsed by the Australian Medical Professionals Society that calls for the Health Minister to stop the development of NHMRC guidelines for gender confused youth.
Australia should follow the UK Cass Review, which included seven systematic reviews—the highest form of medical evidence.
The integrity of the NHMRC review process is now compromised through conflicts of interest.
The Australian judiciary has now recognised that these treatments are unsafe.
“Gender” as a socially constructed, self-declared, fluid identity is not a pathology requiring medical and (irreversible and potentially mutilating) surgical interventions.
These practices are not medicine and need to be stopped.
