The aim of the study outlined below is to describe the microbiological aetiology of otitis media in Aboriginal infants. One Aboriginal community is being studied in which the prevalence of hearing loss and the incidence of ear drum perforation has been documented as being exceptionally high (Douglas et al. 1988).
